Simply put, the significance of power factor device in AC/DC power supplies is to prevent undervoltage. If the input current waveform is severely distorted, the rectified DC voltage will fluctuate significantly. Once this fluctuation drops below the chip's operating threshold, the entire system will fall into a vicious cycle of repeated restarts. The power factor improvement device, by improving phase consistency, effectively thickens the voltage "safety cushion."

Thanks to this front-end intervention, AC/DC power supplies can withstand a wider range of grid fluctuations. For equipment aiming for long-term operation, this is far more practical than simply looking at efficiency figures.
