Engineering Value Of Harmonic Filters

In large industrial and commercial power supply systems, harmonic distortion caused by numerous nonlinear loads (such as frequency converters and rectifiers) often results in high-frequency noise, current distortion, and additional heat loss. This distortion not only degrades power quality but also places a continuous burden on transformers, distribution lines, and terminal equipment.

In this context, by using specially designed passive or active harmonic filter for generator, specific harmonic components in the system current waveform are separated from the main power supply line, making the waveform closer to the ideal sine wave. Waveform cleanup of electrical harmonic filter can reduce line loss and irregular power flow in the system, thereby improving overall electrical efficiency.

For example, deploying appropriate harmonic filtration in medium and high voltage power distribution networks can "capture" and buffer low-order harmonics from the 3rd to the 11th order and higher-order distortions, thereby reducing daily energy consumption indicators. Comparing the operating data before and after the installation of harmonic filtering equipment, many industrial scenarios show a significant decrease in kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumption, which directly reflects the improvement in power utilization and also provides better data performance for power-consuming enterprises in their annual energy consumption reports.
